HOLBOX HERITAGE

42 KILOMETERS OF WHITE SAND BEACH LINES THE ISLAND’S NORTH SHORE, MOST OF WHICH BELONGS TO THE YUM BALAM BIOSPHERE (WHICH MEANS ‘GOD OF THE JAGUARS’ IN MAYAN) - A GLOBAL GATHERING POINT FOR RARE BIRDS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD WHO REST HERE ON ROUTE FROM NORTH TO SOUTH EACH YEAR.

ON THE INITIATIVE OF THE MAYAN POPULATION, THE RESERVE WAS DECLARED A FLORA AND FAUNA PROTECTION AREA IN 1994. ITS WATERS ARE HOME TO SEVERAL SPECIES OF SEA TURTLES, AS WELL AS MANATEES AND LOBSTERS. FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER IT SERVES AS A REFUGE FOR THE LARGEST CONCENTRATION OF WHALE SHARKS ON THE PLANET.

ONLY 5 KM OF HOLBOX ARE ACTUALLY INHABITED, AND WHILE THE TOWN HAS BOOMED FROM SLEEPY FISHERMAN’S VILLAGE TO A HONEYMOON AND HOLIDAY HOTSPOT IN RECENT YEARS, NÔMADE HOLBOX IS SET ON A STRETCH OF SAND THAT RETAINS THE PURITY OF THE ISLAND’S ESSENCE. LIKE IN TULUM, THE POSITIONING OF THE PROPERTY IS KEY TO WHAT WE CREATE - A HAVEN FOR REST, RENEWAL AND RECONNECTION.

WE HAVE A PROFOUND RESPECT FOR THE LAND UPON WHICH WE BUILD OUR HOTELS AND COMMUNITIES, INSPIRED BY THE LOCAL HERITAGE AND HISTORY OF THESE SITES. EACH OF OUR HOTELS EMBODIES NOT ONLY THE LOCAL CULTURE, BUT ALSO THE ANCIENT TRADITIONS AND FORGOTTEN WISDOM OF THE REGION.

WE WISH FOR HOLBOX TO REMAIN A UNIQUE PARADISE, WHERE THE MAGIC, CULTURE AND MYSTIQUE OF THE ANCIENT MAYA CAN BE WITNESSED, EXPERIENCED AND HONORED.
